Timothy Matthew

–

Shelby, North Carolina

Timothy Matthew, Shelby, NC October 8, 1968 – March 30, 2026

Timothy Matthew, 57, passed away on March 30, 2026.
Tim was born at Tripler Army Hospital in Oahu, Hawaii, and was raised as the son of a career Army Major. Military life meant many places called home throughout his childhood, including Schofield Barracks in Hawaii; Frankfurt and Augsburg, Germany; and later Fort Drum and Black River, New York. These experiences shaped his sense of discipline, adaptability, and perspective, and later led to his service in the United States Army during Desert Storm.

Tim met and married Tammy in Syracuse, New York, and the two moved to North Carolina, where he made his home in Mount Holly for over 25 years and raised his family. He was a devoted father and took great pride in his children, who were a central part of his life.

A man of deep faith, Tim was an active member of Steele Creek Church of Charlotte since 1997, serving faithfully on the worship ministry tech team for many years. His greatest passion was sharing the message of Jesus Christ. From handing out ice-cold sodas with scripture to concertgoers in his younger years, to leading Bible studies in the workplace, and serving on mission trips to Nicaragua in 2013 and Jamaica this past January, Tim lived out his faith in action.

Tim also had a vast wealth of what he would jokingly call “useless knowledge,” often surprising those around him with his love for trivia. He had a deep appreciation for music across an eclectic range of genres, and was especially a fan of Phish and the Grateful Dead.

He also cherished time spent on Steele Creek Church’s annual men’s beach trips, where friendships were strengthened and memories were made. In the final two years of his life, he became part of the Pleasant City Church community in Shelby, where he both served and was supported.

Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Jean Matthew, and his sister, Lisa Matthew.

He is survived by his children, Zechariah, Noah, and Rebekah; his former spouse, Tammy; his brother, Peter; and five nieces and nephews, along with many friends, church family members, and all who were impacted by his faithful witness and kind spirit.

Timothy’s life was one of service; to his country, his family, and his Savior. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the faith he so freely shared.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at 6:30 PM at Steele Creek Church, Arrowood Campus, 1929 West Arrowood Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28217.
