Freddie Lee Byrd, fondly known as Freddie, was a beacon of light and joy to all who knew him. Born on September 10, 1965, in Gastonia, NC, Freddie was known for his humility, loyalty, reliability, and a sense of humor that could brighten even the gloomiest of days. His laughter was contagious, and no one could resist his charm. As Mark Twain once said, "The secret of success is making your vocation your vacation," and Freddie truly found joy in his work, employing his unique qualities to the fullest.
Freddie had a heart for service, which was evident in his work at the Salvation Army. Although he only worked there for a year, his impact was profound and lasting. His role of ringing the bell became much more than a job; it was a service to his community, a way to connect with people and spread love. Beyond his work, Freddie was a humble man who found joy in simple pleasures. He had a love for drawing and reading books which he often shared with those around him. His drawings brought smiles to many faces, and his insights from the books he read often sparked lively and engaging conversations.
Above all, Freddie was a man who loved his family deeply, especially his daughter, Fiera Oldham and her children; Charles Phillips Jr., Nazariah Oldham, Elijah Oldham, Israel Oldham and Treyvell Brintley. He was a reliable and loyal brother to his five siblings; DeEtta Wright, Adejah and her husband Jerry Adams, and Dannie Wright and his wife Lakisha Smith, Erica Brooks and Hopie Wright, and a beloved son of his father Dannie Edward Wright Sr., all of whom carry on Freddie's memory. He was preceded in death by his loving step mother Betty Faye Wright and his mother Louise Byrd. Freddie's family was his rock—his source of strength and joy. They were the ones he turned to in times of need, and they were the ones he celebrated with in times of joy.
Freddie Byrd, a man of integrity and kindness, has left a void in our hearts that can never be filled. But his memory will live on in the laughter he shared, the art he created, and the love he gave to his family and community. As we remember and celebrate Freddie, we invite you to share your memories and photos of him on his memorial page. Your contributions will serve as a tribute to the amazing man he was and the lives he touched.
